RESPONSIBLY SOURCED COFFEES

Coffees that are sustainability sourced, direct trade and responsibly farmed.

SAFAI FOUNDATION

In 2013, while visiting coffee farms in Honduras, our founders Mike and Medora Safai witnessed devastation caused by the “coffee rust” fungus firsthand. The Safai’s were then inspired to establish the ‘Safai Arabica Farm Assistance Initiative’ (SAFAI) Foundation. The mission of the SAFAI Foundation is to spearhead farm conservation efforts, helping farmers save their coffee plants.

USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC

Coffee farms require an extensive amount of care. Due to the physical and monetary cost of this care, many farmers turn to pesticides and fertilizers to ease their burden and increase their crop output. Over time the farmers found that these choices lead to a dependency on harsh chemicals to artificially enhance production. However, throughout the years we’ve learned that artificial pesticides and fertilizers kill topsoil biome, pushing farmers to apply even more chemicals to their crops to help them grow.

When developing direct relationships with farmers, our founder and Master Roaster, Mike Safai, encourages farmers to convert their farms back to organic practices by sharing stories of success and resources to pathways for soil biome recovery.

In fact, Mike Safai recently returned to a coffee growing community that embraced these practices for their coffee and vegetable gardens. As a result, their vegetable yield became more than their families could consume, and they were able to garner additional income through a newly created farmers market.

Creating demand for organic coffees is the most influential way to convert farms back to organic practices. Thank you for choosing our USDA Organic Certified offerings, and supporting the farmers that make the special effort to be good environment stewards.
